Scripture Song of Philippians 4:8
“Whatsoever Things Are True”
Commentary on Philippians 4:8
by Living Faith Fellowship
If the saying is true that "we are what we eat," it is surely much more true that we become what we think about. For this reason, Paul admonishes us to think on the things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report. In other words, we should think on the things that reflect God in the earth, rather than those that reflect the world, the flesh, and the Devil. This does not mean that we ought to engage in "positive thinking," in the sense that we never have a negative thought or say anything that puts a frown on someone's face. (It's hard to imagine the Pharisees smiling when our Lord called them a "generation of vipers.") What it does mean is that our thoughts, like our speech, dress, work and every other area of our lives, should show the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, and draw ourselves and others closer to Him.
