Scripture Song of Isaiah 9:6

“For Unto Us a Child is Born”

Commentary on Isaiah 9:6

by Living Faith Fellowship

The Old Testament prophets wrote extensively about the coming Messiah, but at the time these prophecies seemed cryptic and full of paradoxes, even to the men through whom they came (1 Pet. 1:11). How could the Messiah be both conquering king and suffering servant? Most puzzling of all, how could He come as the Son of man, yet be called "The Mighty God, the Everlasting Father" - titles reserved exclusively for the Lord Himself?

Today, we know the answer to this paradox. God's Son was born as a human, but remained One with the Father, thus becoming God in the flesh. The promise of a Redeemer was kept without any contradiction, and in a way that no one could have imagined beforehand.

As followers of Jesus, we have been given yet another great promise: One day, our Lord will return to take the throne. We may be puzzled by some of the prophecies about his second coming, just as the Old Testament Jews were puzzled by his first. God, however, is never puzzled. He knows exactly how He will bring about the endless Kingdom of "The Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace."
