“Fear Not For I Have Redeemed Thee”
Commentary on Isaiah 43:1-2

Most of us can probably remember a time when, as little children, we simply assumed our parents would take care of everything, when we never worried about anything, as long as they were near. This relationship of simple trust is exactly the kind our Father wants us to have with Him. The Lord Jesus, whose own dependence on his Father was absolute (John 8:28), admonished his disciples: "...except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven" (Matt. 18:3)
When we really stop and think about it, the truth is that most of us don't picture ourselves this way. We have our own "grown-up" ideas and agendas that often drown out the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit. We want God to be there for the fire and the raging river, but when things are going well, we prefer for Him to be off in the sky or back in the church sanctuary, while we proceed to run our own lives.
The problem with this plan is simple: It doesn't work. Without daily yielding our lives to God, we will never be prepared for the crisis, nor experience the unshakable peace that allowed our Savior to sleep in the middle of a storm. By insisting on our own independent way, we condemn ourselves to reaping our own consequences, and we become easy prey for the Devil's attacks.
How much easier our lives could be if we would simply give up our so-called right to ourselves, and come beneath God's sheltering wings. It is when we continually abide in this place that we can hear Him say "Fear not, for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name: thou art mine."
