Upon This Rock

This rhyming children's book was written in 1981 for the little lambs in our own family flock - who, at the ages of 3, 5, and 7, participated by drawing the illustrations. The complete book is available as a free PDF download, and as an online flipbook with audio narration by the author.

About the story

In Paul's letter to the Ephesians we read that the church is "built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone (Eph 2:20). Upon This Rock tells the story of how Jesus laid the very first stones in the building of his church. The men who became the twelve apostles were not super-human, nor even super-spiritual. They were just ordinary men, much like ourselves, with doubts, fears and ambitions. Yet from the day they answered the Savior's call, He began transforming them into vessels that, filled with his Spirit, would take the Gospel to the world.

Like the disciples, we may feel unworthy in light of our many failures. The important thing to remember is that Jesus is the one who is building God's House - we are just the raw materials (1 Pet. 2:4-5). Filled with his righteous life, and founded upon the Rock of his own Person, even sinners such as ourselves can be found faithful.
