"Now Unto Him That Is Able To Do Exceeding..."

Eph. 3:20-21

  1. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
  2. Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Commentary

The Bible tells us that God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts as the heavens are higher than the earth (Isa. 55:9). Having experienced direct revelations of God, the Apostle Paul truly understood how much higher that is. In this third chapter of Ephesians, he expounded the greatest example of God's wisdom and power exceeding all expectations - the plan of redemption, not only for Jews, but also for Gentiles. This extension of mercy, unexpected by man (Eph. 3:5), was put in place by God from the foundation of the world (1 Pet. 1:20), to be revealed in his good time.

In view of this unlimited power and wisdom so far beyond our own, we should take hold of all that God has afforded us through Jesus Christ. We should ask in his Name, and then expect to receive "abundantly above all that we ask or think" - not to gratify ourselves (Jas. 4:3), but to glorify Him who is worthy.

If God is not working freely in our lives, it is likely because we have not allowed the Holy Spirit - "the power that worketh in us" - room to operate. If we would receive everything God has to offer, we must be emptied of ourselves and abide in Jesus Christ.
